Diagnostic accuracy of triphasic CT scan abdomen in the diagnosis of distal esophageal varices taking endoscopic findings as gold standard.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of multidetector computed tomography in detection esophageal varices patients with hrpatic cirrhosis. Study Design: Cross Sectional study. Setting: Department Diagnostic Radiology, Kot Khawaja Saeed Teaching Hospital, Lahore. Period: January, 2021 to July, 2021. Material & Methods: Two hundred seventy five diagnosed liver cirrhosis were included our Multidetector CT abdomen was performed using multislice and findings recorded. The cases underwent endoscopy within subsequent 8 weeks. results MDCT compared findings, which taken as gold standard. Results: We found 190 true-positives, 80 true-negatives, 03 false-negatives, 02 false-positive results. demonstrated a sensitivity 98.4%, specificity 97.6%, PPV 99.0%, NPV 96.4%, an 98.1%. Extra-esophageal on other porto-systemic collaterals hepatocellular carcinoma. Conclusion: is effective modality for diagnosis can be used screening test varices. also permits evaluation extra-luminal pathology that impacts management.
